Camel racing, traditionally known as the sport of sheiks, continues even today in the small hamlet of Al Shahaniya. Al-Shahaniya racing track, is an hour’s drive into the gleaming desert outside west – north of downtown Doha. It holds domestic and international tournaments of Camels. This is to familiarize you with the racing track and if you are lucky, you can see training the camels and even a camel tournament. Afterwards visit a farmhouse where you are welcomed by traditional hot Arabic coffee/ tea.

You can go around the farm and see the life stock feeding, small cultivation, milking goats, and take a short village tour of Shahaniya by bicycle.

Mangrove plantations on the coast north of Al Khor are popular haunts of local ornithologists.
